On one VPS with about thirty customer accounts, the retail control-panel invoice for a year is $593.49 for cPanel Pro (annual billing), $348 for DirectAdmin Standard ($29 × 12), and €198 for Plesk Web Host on yearly billing (€16.50/mo × 12). At one hundred accounts the DirectAdmin and Plesk rows stay flat; cPanel Premier is $839.88 for the year ($69.99 × 12) before the $0.49 per extra account.
Those numbers are list prices from the vendors' own pages, excluding VAT. The metre decides the bill: cPanel counts accounts, Plesk counts domains, DirectAdmin caps accounts and domains until you buy Standard unlimited.
| Load on one server | cPanel | DirectAdmin | Plesk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ~30 accounts / hosting load | Pro annual $593.49 | Standard $348/yr | Web Host €198/yr |
| 100 accounts | Premier $839.88/yr | Standard $348/yr | Web Host €198/yr |
| What the licence meters | cPanel accounts | accounts + domains (or unlimited) | domains |
| Currency on the pricing page | USD | USD | EUR |
For the USD bar chart below, Plesk's €198 is drawn at $213.84 using €1 = $1.08. Recheck the rate when you budget; the euro figure on plesk.com/pricing is the one that matters.
What each licence meters
cPanel sells Solo (1 account), Admin (up to 5), Pro (up to 30), and Premier (100, then $0.49 per extra account per month). An account is a cPanel user that owns sites, files, mail, and domains. A WHM reseller counts as an account too. Extra public IPs on the same server do not each need a licence. Solo, Admin, and Pro are Cloud/VPS only; Premier also covers dedicated metal. Annual billing is offered for Solo, Admin, and Pro; Premier is monthly on the store page.
DirectAdmin sells Personal PLUS ($5/mo, 2 accounts, 20 domains), Lite ($15/mo, 10 accounts, 50 domains), and Standard ($29/mo, unlimited accounts and domains). The same dollar price covers VPS or dedicated. There is no published annual SKU on the retail page; budget $29 × 12 for Standard. Bulk discounts start at four Standard-equivalent licences when you pay from prepaid balance.
Plesk sells Web Admin (10 domains), Web Pro (30 domains), and Web Host (unlimited domains). The page prints monthly and yearly columns in euros. Yearly billing shows €6.60 / €9.90 / €16.50 per month for those three editions. The monthly column is higher (€12.04 / €18.29 / €31.38). VAT may apply by country.
cPanel's store page warns that licence pricing adjusts on 16 December 2026 for new orders and renewals on or after that date. Plesk warns of an adjustment on 1 January 2027. Treat every table in this post as a snapshot of the public list, not a locked contract.

How the bill scales past one hundred accounts
On cPanel Premier, each account above 100 adds $0.49 per month. One hundred fifty accounts is $69.99 + 50 × $0.49 = $94.49/mo, or about $1,133.88/yr. DirectAdmin Standard and Plesk Web Host stay at $29/mo and €16.50/mo yearly until you add another server (another licence).
Put the same one thousand accounts on five Premier servers and you pay five bases. Put them on one Premier server and you pay one base plus $0.49 × 900. The licence maths pushes density; operations risk pushes the other way. That tension is the real "feature" comparison for a growing host.
Install entry points and how to count
You still need a public IPv4 for most store licences. The installers below are the vendors' documented entry points. They expect a fresh supported OS and a key or trial. This lab stayed on desk research for the money tables; the count commands are what you run after a panel is live.
# DirectAdmin (needs a key / trial)
bash <(curl -fsS https://www.directadmin.com/setup.sh) auto
# cPanel (see current OS matrix in cPanel docs)
cd /home && curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest && sh latest
# Plesk one-click
sh <(curl https://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer)Count what you will be billed for:
# cPanel accounts
whmapi1 listaccts | awk '/user:/ {c++} END {print c+0}'
# DirectAdmin users
ls -1 /usr/local/directadmin/data/users | wc -l
# Plesk domains
plesk bin domain --list | wc -lMatch that count to the ladder before you renew. A host that sells "unlimited domains" on cPanel Pro still hits the 30-account wall when the thirtieth customer gets a login.

When a marketplace beats another panel licence
If the product you sell is a full VM or game server, the customer already has root or a game panel. Paying cPanel Premier on every node is optional overhead. NodeRings is built around that shape: providers list Compute Instance and game plans, and the licence you fight over is the hypervisor and the OS, not a shared-hosting control panel on every guest.
Shared-hosting shops still need a panel. In that world the yearly table above is the first filter. Free panels with measured idle RAM are a different post: CyberPanel vs Hestia vs aaPanel on a 2 GB VPS. Billing stack cost (WHMCS and friends) is What billing costs a 250-client host in 2026. Historical shocks live in The hosting price-change log, 2019 to 2026.
2026 list prices move, the shape of the tiers does not
Vendor pricing pages through late 2026 still show the same ladder this post prices against: cPanel Solo around $30/mo for one account up through Premier near $70/mo with per-account overage; DirectAdmin Personal PLUS / Lite / Standard near $5 / $15 / $29 with Standard unlimited; Plesk Web Admin / Pro / Host on VPS near $17 / $30 / $63. Annual billing shaves a little off some SKUs. WebPros has also announced further cPanel/Plesk adjustments on fixed calendar dates, so re-check the cart before you quote a client a three-year TCO. At ten accounts DirectAdmin Standard and Plesk Web Pro sit close; at hundreds of accounts on one box cPanel’s per-account tail dominates while DirectAdmin Standard stays flat. Keep our yearly table as the worked example, and refresh the unit prices from the vendor pages when you renew.
FAQ
Is DirectAdmin always cheaper than cPanel?
At the retail Standard vs Pro/Premier loads in this post, yes on the yearly invoice. At Personal PLUS or Lite, you can hit the account or domain cap and have to jump to Standard anyway. Compare at your count, not at the cheapest row.
Why does Plesk look cheaper in euros?
Because it publishes in euros and metres domains. Convert carefully, and count domains the way Plesk counts them (staging and add-ons add up). Yearly billing is the fair column for an annual budget.
Do I need annual billing?
cPanel Solo/Admin/Pro save about 8.4% on the annual SKU. Premier has no annual row on the store page. DirectAdmin is monthly on the retail list. Plesk's yearly column is the one that matches a twelve-month plan.
What about partner discounts?
Real hosts often pay less than store retail through partners or bulk. This post uses the public list so three vendors share one baseline. Ask your distributor for the same tier names before you trust a blog that quotes $15 cPanel.
Will the Dec 2026 cPanel change break these numbers?
It will for renewals and new orders on or after that date. Re-read cPanel pricing when you renew. Same habit for Plesk's Jan 2027 notice.
